About · Personal capacity

Theory tested against practice.

I'm a finance academic, a former economic advisor on major public infrastructure, and — in a personal capacity — an adviser to finance teams on what AI genuinely changes about their work.

The connective tissue is verification: research that has to survive peer review, decisions that have to survive scrutiny, and outputs that have to survive a signature.

Background

The short version.

I'm an Assistant Professor of Finance, based in Sydney. Before academia, I worked as an economic advisor on a major public infrastructure investment — the kind of decision where the analysis has to hold up long after the model is closed and the money is committed.

In a personal capacity, I advise CFOs, finance teams, and professional firms on what AI genuinely changes about financial work — and, just as often, what it doesn't. Production has become cheap; the scarce skill is telling whether an output is right, defensible, and worth acting on.

My research and teaching sit where finance, accounting, and AI meet questions of judgement and professional work — how expertise holds up, and who stays accountable, when a machine can produce the answer but cannot answer for it.

The professional verifier

Verification is what journals trust me to do.

Peer review is verification in its purest form: reading someone else's work closely enough to say whether it holds — and being trusted to make that call. I'm an active reviewer for leading journals across finance, accounting, and operations research, with 75+ completed reviews to date.

Verification isn't just what I advise on. It's what the field trusts me to do.
